These Are a Few of My Favorite Blogs

Let me first say this:  blogs are addictive.  Whether its writing one or reading several, they can suck away the hours like nobody’s business if you let them. I’ll sit down after the girls are in bed to just check my igoogle reader and 4 hours later I’m reading about the adventures of a homeschooling family in Vancouver or learning how to create dresses out of old men’s shirts.  So take this as a warning:  blogs are addictive.  Don’t blame me next time your engrossed in some mommy blog at 2 am…unless its this one ; )

At any rate, below are a few of the blogs to which I subscribe and read on a regular basis.  If you don’t know how to subscribe to blogs, there is a great article here about how to subscribe through an RSS feed.

The Simple Mom:  I stumbled onto this blog…well I don’t really remember how I found it.  Probably late at night as a recommendation on a blog that had been recommended by another blog.  But at any rate, I’m glad I did.  It is my favorite blog at the moment.  The mom who writes it shares great tips on simple mothering and homemaking, everything from organizational tips and instructions on how to make your own compost bin to ideas for chores your preschooler can do.  Great, down-to-earth advice in a blog that’s lovely to look at.  I also like the author’s personal blog, Better Things Ahead, where she shares about her family’s life as ex-pats.

Blueprints: I discovered this blog while searching for free patterns some time ago.  It used to be under the name “Just Tutes” which I thought was pretty clever, but the same great content is still here.  This author makes available her craft tutorials (mostly sewing projects) for free.  I am going to tackle her twirl skirt sometime this fall.  Lots of great ideas for repurposing old stuff as well and even kiddie art projects.

The Pipers: This is a blog written by a mom who just happens to be the daughter in law of the guy we named our oldest daughter after.  That would be how I found the blog.  But I love reading it because of her honesty and the candidness with which she deals with life in general.  She writes a good deal about the loss of her daughter at birth and is a great resource for grieving moms.  Honest, godly thoughts on dealing with tragedy and with everyday life.

The Rabbit Room:  Okay, so this one is not a mom-blog at all.  But it is excellent.  I suppose I could call it a storytelling blog.  It is mostly the musings of Christians who are also artists of different sorts- some musicians, some writers, some visual artists, some a combination of those.  The posts are always thought-provoking, often amusing, and sometimes downright funny.  Oh, and the name comes from the place where the Inklings (C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, et. al) used to meet.  That fact alone sold me.  The indie artists who contribute also promote their new albums and books, so it’s also a place to hear about cool new music, especially if folk is your thing.

I’d love to hear your favorites!
